Destination Wedding Switzerland Information
Yes, there are literally hundreds of cool locations to get married in Switzerland.
Apart from the Location, there are a number of other things to consider:
Marriage according to Swiss Civil Code
You’ll have to decide whether you’d like to be married officially, according to the Swiss Civil Code (which is contained in the Zivilgesetzbuch), or rather have an unofficial ceremony in a church for example, or both.
Official marriages must conform to a strict set of rules, some of which apply nationwide and others depend on the office responsible for the marriage.
The marriage must take place at an official location and certain days such as Sundays and holidays are excluded. Although most locations are still in the town hall (Rathaus), a gradual opening up is taking place due to demand with more and more external locations being deemed official. It is now possible to have an official marriage in a Zoo, on a lake, in a museum, in a castle amongst others. These locations usually cost an additional charge on top of the modest marriage fee.
It’s best to contact the civil office nearest to the location you plan on getting married and they will be able to give you the details and formalities depending on our nationality. Also the days on which the ceremonies are conducted are probably important to you.
In most locations, a ceremony is only possible on certain days of the week, Fridays being common. Saturdays are not possible at many locations but also this rule is being loosened due to demand.
